Maritime training Financial Aid Available

In time for registration for the fall semester, financial assistance will be available for qualified applicants for the S/V Picton Castle’s ‘Big Rig’ Bosun School, taking place this fall, in Lunenburg, Nova Scotia. The scholarships are being offered through the support of the Nova Scotia Seamanship Education Society (NSSES) and will be available to young men and women who wish to gain advanced and critical skills in maritime vocations, such as vessel maintenance, rigging, boat building and repair, boat handling, and sailmaking.

The NSSES regularly partners with Sail Training Ship Picton Castle and Bosun School. Since it was founded in 2014, NSSES has provided more than half a million dollars in support for professionally minded mariners to pursue training in the marine industry, both at sea and ashore. Mariners accepted to the Bosun School program who need financial aid may request a Scholarship application form from info@seamanship.ca.

 Quote:

“Practical hands-on learning is essential to success in the maritime industry. Unfortunately, the cost of taking time away from regular or seasonal employment and paying tuition for world-class training opportunities is beyond reach for many men and women who would otherwise excel in ships. NSSES was created to help close the gap between those who could obtain more specialized skills, and those who should benefit from those same opportunities. The Society is pleased to be partnering once again with Bosun School to produce a new class of highly-skilled, professionally-minded mariners. These are the men and women who will carry on maritime traditions and further our shared goals for excellence in the industry, regardless of economic status.”
